The company is part of the structure of the Concern "Tractor Plants".
The date of the plant's foundation is June 16, 1936. It is located in the city of Kanash of the Chuvash Republic, which is one of the major railway junctions in the center of the Volga region. The company began its history with the repair of freight cars. In the 50s of the XX century, the Kanash Car Repair Plant was among the first in the system of railway repair enterprises of the country to master the flow-conveyor method of repairing cars.
In 2006, on the basis of the Kanash Wagon Repair Plant, a closed joint-stock company Promtractor-Wagon was formed, which in 2020 was renamed KAVAZ LLC.
